Abstract: This article discusses the underrepresentation of women in the archaeological record of ancient Egypt. While most of the monuments and tombs that have been unearthed belong to men, there is evidence to suggest that women played important roles in ancient Egyptian society. The article focuses on a painted limestone stela from the Middle Kingdom that depicts two adult women and two young girls, possibly sisters, along with nine female names in total. The researchers believe that these women may have been part of a multi-generational family involved in women's health, childbirth, and childcare. The discovery of a birth tusk in the tomb further supports this interpretation. The article concludes by suggesting that there are likely more traces of women's lives waiting to be discovered in the archaeological record. [Extracted from the article]
