Description: In this paper it is argued that recently observed x-ray emission from non-magnetic planets (Dennerl et al., 2002) can be explained as a combination of bremsstrahlung and line K-shell radiation produced by the interaction of energetic electrons with the neutral atmosphere. Numerical simulations show that the modified two stream instability can generate energetic 100 eV electrons that are observed and these electrons can produce x-ray emission.
